The World Famous Comedy Store Original Room Delivers Huge Laughs

Conducting funerals for a living is serious business. Needing a break from the tears, we headed for The Comedy Store on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.

My sister-in-law, Robin, was in town from Alaska and it was the perfect way to spend her final night's visit to Los Angeles. Of course, we saw the sights while she was in town from Zuma Beach and Malibu to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But, finishing her week's visit listening and laughing to hysterical jokes from top Los Angeles comedians at The Comedy Store was the perfect ending. We found her a front row seat, which was perfect seating for an out-of-towner.

With every comedian stepping up to the microphone on stage, the laughs grew over the course of the night.

The highlights included comedians Whitney Cummings, Bobby Lee, Kirk Fox, Bret Ernst and Argus Hamilton. A long list of other comedians also delivered laughs throughout the night and into the early hours of the following morning.

Early in the evening, it was wonderful to see a funny woman on stage! Whitney Cummings' delivery and quick wit brought constant laughter from the audience. Clearly very talented and on top of her game, her name recognition will continue to grow. She co-starred with Michelle Monaghan and Patrick Dempsey in the film "Made of Honor" and rightfully so, her talents are being recognized. Her time on stage flew by quickly as Whitney was born with a natural ability to entertain.

Comedian Bobby Lee from "MadTV" on Fox was absolutely hysterical. It was obvious why his talents were noticed years ago as he has found success in film and television. With his family reflections to funny moments from his life shared on stage, Bobby Lee is a comedian who guarantees consistent laughter. Even when delivering new jokes with the admission of trying them out on the crowd, there was no topic left unturned. Bobby Lee had the ability to leave the crowd wanting more when he left the stage.

Comedian Kirk Fox, who had flown into Los Angeles the previous night, used his red-eye flight for the bulk of his material. When one of his descriptions of the 40 people on board his flight fell flat and my husband asked "What?" because it didn't make sense, Fox delivered one of the most hysterical ongoing segments of the night rewriting his material while onstage. We were laughing so hard, we had to use our drink napkins to dab away our tears. Fox truly delivered laugh after laugh for the audience, which grew larger over the course of the night.

Comedian Bret Ernst, who was featured in "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights - Hollywood to the Heartland," connected with the audience on many levels with material about working as a waiter in various restaurants around Los Angeles. Listening to his material made everyone seated around us leave a larger tip for the waitress this night. It's a hard job to serve people at restaurants, especially theme restaurants. Ernst provided some hilarious insight.

The most recognizable comedian of the night was long-time "The Tonight Show" jokester Argus Hamilton, who often uses material from newspaper headlines to gain laughs. Hamilton clearly has earned respect over the years from the younger comedians.

Honestly, there is no better joy in life than truly laughing with your heart and soul. The one place that delivers the goods with guaranteed laughter is The Comedy Store! My group was extremely grateful to the talents on stage and the banter with the audience. It's not easy to deliver smart material while interacting with a live audience, but the comedians on stage at The Comedy Store are true talents who made their work on stage seem like a piece of cake, providing a sweet, healthy dose of laughter until the very end.
