The World Loses Two Legends: The Deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett

It is not very often that you would hear Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson mentioned in the same sentence but then June 25, 2009 was no ordinary day. Both show business legends sadly passed away in Los Angeles just hours apart. Whilst everyone's thoughts go out to the families, the world will also be mourning the loss of two of its shining stars.

Farrah Fawcett, one of the beautiful actresses that shot to fame in the 1970s as Charlie's Angels, died at the age of 2 this morning after a long but incredibly brave battle against cancer. Fawcett's starring role in the hit TV show remained the one that she was most associated with throughout her life but it was her roles in gritty dramas that won her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

After being diagnosed with anal cancer, Fawcett became something of a campaigner to promote awareness of the disease and even made a video diary to highlight her illness, telling her story how she wanted it to be told. The programme was broadcast just weeks ago and certainly told the world of her bravery. She is survived by partner Ryan O'Neal and son Redmond.

Although the death of Farrah Fawcett was sad but somewhat expected, the death of Michael Jackson was far from it. In the story that has shocked the world, news emerged from UCLA Medical Center a little before 4pm Pacific time that he had died following a suspected cardiac arrest.

Although few details are known at this precise moment, Jackson was thought to have had a heart attack at his Bel Air residence this morning. Paramedics were called to his home and performed CPR before rushing him to UCLA Medical Center. Although it has yet to be officially confirmed by parties close to the singer, Michael Jackson has been reported to have died by the American press at the age of just 50.

Survived by his three children (Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II.), Michael Jackson has been followed by a series of very public scandals in recent years as well as serious financial difficulties. However, he had announced a comeback tour that was to start in July 2009 in order to raise funds. It would have been the first time that Jackson would have toured in 12 years as a direct result of a series of health problems.

Rest In Peace Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. The world of entertainment lost two of its brightest stars.
