The New World Order Back in Black

New World Order

-About the New World Order-

The New world Order was a faction / stable that originated in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) which was built around the premise of "taking over" WCW. It used three former World Wrestling Federation guys in Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash so the angle was quite believable. Many people indeed thought that Vince McMahon sent these three guys to wipe out the competition. The nWo did a lot of crazy things such as spray-paint the WCW belt into the nWo belt. They also attacked known factions such as the Four Horsemen and the Dungeon of Doom. They took over the announcer's booth from time to time. They even spray painted the production truck of WCW. They also cut out some of the best promos in their nWo announcements. This faction was very cutting edge and eventually helped WCW topple WWF in the ratings war. The New World Order had many incarnations, the members of which are written below. At one point half of the locker room was a member of the group.

A lot of people blame the overuse of the nWo angle as one of the factors that led to WCW's demise. Later, when the WWF bought WCW, the faction made its WWF debut fittingly in the No Way Out PPV. They were brought back and feuded with top stars at that time such as Steve Austin and The Rock. The group didn't last long however because of Hulk Hogan's face turn and various injury issues. The group was disbanded in July 15, 2002 on Raw by Vince McMahon. The group was never reformed after that.

-About Hulk Hogan-

Hulk Hogan aka Terry Bollea was the guy who brought wrestling to its mainstream status. He attracted a legion of fans through his charisma and showmanship. He stands at 6'5" and weighs 302 lbs. In his prime he claimed to have 24" pythons. Recently however, at a show with Rachael Ray it only measures at 20".Hogan has starred in television shows American Gladiators, Thunder in Paradise, Hogan Knows Best, Brooke Knows Best and Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling. In the movie industry he has starred in Rocky 3, No Holds Barred, Suburban commando, Mr. Nanny, Santa with Muscles and 3Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain.

He is a 12 time world heavyweight champion. 6 time WWE champion and 6 time WCW champion. He has also won a tag team championship with Edge. He has also one two consecutive Royal Rumbles which were in 1990 and in 1991.

-About Scott Hall-

Scott Oliver Hall gained popularity in the WWF as the Cuban Razor Ramon. He has achieved success as one of the top midcarders of the company. He has 4 Intercontinental Championships, 2 United States Heavyweight Championships, 1 Television title, 7 WCW World Tag Team championships and won the 1997 World War 3 Battle royal. He started the whole New World Order angle when he came into WCW television in the middle of a match on May 27, 1996. He then challenged WCW to a war. The next week Kevin Nash came along and in Bash at the Beach Hulk Hogan rounded off the trio.

Scott Hall stands at 6'6" and weighs 285 lbs.

-About Kevin Nash-

Kevin Nash stands at 7'0" and weighs 320 lbs. He has had a very successful career. He has 6 reigns as World Heavyweight champion, 11 reigns as Tag-Team champion and one reign as an Intercontinental champion. He has also been seen on Hollywood. He was Super Shredder in TMNT 2. He also appeared in The Punisher and The Longest Yard.

Currently he wrestles in Total Nonstop Action as a member of the Main Event Mafia. The Main Event Mafia is like a remake of the New World Order in some aspects. The difference though is that the MEM is a more select group of individuals. The number of World Titles, Midcard titles and Tag Team Titles on this group is staggering. On the Heavyweight championships alone it's about 35 if I'm not mistaken.

-The Extras-

Hogan, Hall and Nash vs. Luger, Sting and Savage (Bash at the Beach 1996) - This is where the New World Order officially began. Hogan becomes heel and turns his back of his millions of fans.

WCW vs. New World Order (Hogan, Hall, Nash and the bogus Sting) vs. WCW (Luger, Flair, Anderson and Sting) (Fall Brawl 1996)- This is a very entertaining matchup with so many big names. Team WCW looks like a version of the Four Horsemen.

Kevin Nash vs. Bill Goldberg (Starrcade 1998) - Kevin Nash challenges Bill Goldberg's 173-0 undefeated streak and his World Championship reign. Scott Hall makes a surprise appearance here.

Hogan and Hall vs. Austin and The Rock (Raw 3/11/02) - This is a dream match right here. Four big main event superstars.Thats a PPV caliber match on free television folks.

Easter Egg: Four New World Order Promos

-The Verdict-

The New world Order in my personal opinion is the best faction / stable ever in professional wrestling history. Just imagine all the big names that have been in the nWo. You have Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Sting, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Paul Wight, Bret Hart and Curt Hennig to name a few. They even grew to become half of the WCW locker room. Everyone wanted to be a member of the New World Order. I mean all the other factions I have know were small and didn't even reach ten members. Look at this list - Four Horsemen, Dungeon of Doom, Degeneration X,Evolution, Nation of Domination, Disciples of Apocalypse, The Hart Foundation, Main Event Mafia. There were some that were big but included too many ham and eggers (a connotation of average or below average wrestlers coined by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan). Examples of this were the Ministry of Darkness and the Corporation. The New World Order revolutionized wrestling to be more cutting edge and more adult oriented. This was in sharp contrast to the cartoonish state it was back in the 1980's. This helped usher an Attitude era in rival WWF. Gone are the days when everyone was either only a good guy or a bad guy. There existed now plenty of tweeners. These were good guys who used heelish tacticts. Examples are Stone Old Steve Austin and Eddie Guerrero.

The New World Order forever changed the landscape of professional wrestling. It also helped revitalize the industry and the career of Hulk Hogan as well. This established his versatility as both a very good face and heel. Few people after all know that Hogan was once a heel under the guidance of Freddie Blassie. He wasn't that big back then.I liked this video very much because I am a mark for the New World Order. The video however was too short and as a result, I felt shortchanged. I mean where is the storyline between the split of the faction leading to nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac? What about the reunion of the group and the fingerpoke of doom? Where is nWo 2000?

Again a lot of the video focuses of the faction's stay in the WWF which is again biased. The New World Order was big back in WCW. It is disappointing considering the group didn't last a year there. So much WCW material was not shown here. What is Vince McMahon doing with that WCW footage I wonder.I would love to see the group be revived on television. I am sick and tired of the WWF / WWE trying to revive Degeneration X for the nth time. They should try to give it a shot. The closest to that group today is the Main Event Mafia of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

I would recommend this video as the New World Order is one of the greatest factions ever. Also its originators - Hogan, Hall and Nash are some of the biggest names ever. The matches featured are nice as well. It would have been better if the WWe incorporated more material into the video. I mean the New World Order lasted for six years. More material would have been nice. Also I would want to have an archive of all the New World Order propaganda promos. They are so cool and cutting edge. Too bad a measly 4 appear here. Three hours worth of documentary and extras simply doesn't do justice to what I believe is the greatest faction of all time.
