The World Can Be Scary Sometimes

Why We Need Faith

I used to travel a bit. I would go all through the USA at dog shows, I was pretty unaware of tragedies. But then I went to Europe in 1997 for graduation. And shortly after I got back, Princess Diana died in the same type of tunnel we had been in when we were in Paris. I didn't think too much about it.

But then I went to Alaska and while we were on a cruise off the coast of British Columbia Canada, a plane mysteriously exploded over Newfoundland area of Canada. This was thought maybe to be from a missile. No one knows.

The last straw was when I went to Manatoulin Islands in Canada. Right before we left, we were at Sandy Hook in NJ. I looked up and could see Manhatten and the twin towers. I thought they would always be there. This was a few weeks before 9-11. Need I say more? But while I was up in Canada I saw all these Canadian flags and by the time we got back, I had to go back to school and then before I knew it, the twin towers were destroyed. It's been 8 years almost since I've left the country. Maybe its irrational. Maybe its shell shock. I've been to Maryland since then and there were hurricanes in the south.

I was home during Katrina and the Tsunami. So I guess bad things happen no matter what. But I just can't believe there is so much horror in the world. I don't like to travel anymore. Everywhere seems so ripe for a new destruction. And I don't even know any Muslims really, although I remember meeting a convert while I was in a bible study in a college.

Believe me, I don't think the world revolves around me. I just fear that this world is so broken and scary that it will take a miracle to fix it. There's a lot of good things to enjoy. But even something as simple as a happy family is as rare as hen's teeth. And I think that is because everyone watches so much TV and believes what the media tells them to believe. Its sad really. In the fifties people said they were so much happier. It was simpler back then. No drugs or a lot of gangs. Even though there had been two world wars, people were satisfied with the simple things.

I know we can never go back. But I just like to believe in the family, and love and kindness to others. Common courtesy, manners. Have we gotten too far from this?
