Summer is in full swing and that means it is time for the World's Longest Yard Sale. Some people call it the 127 Corridor Sale. No matter what you call it, it means the time is near for you to make plans for this fantastic yard sale.
Here are some important facts and helpful hints that you need to know if you are planning to hit the road for this amazing and fun-filled event.
Where is it?
The 127 Corridor Sale is on Highway 127. It begins in Hudson, Michigan and continues south to Gadsden, Alabama with lots of bargains from beginning to end.
When is it?
The World's Longest Yard Sale always takes place beginning the first Thursday in August to the following Sunday. The sale takes place from August 4th through August 7th, 2011.
Is there an admission fee?
Absolutely not!
What can I buy there?
Anything and everything! If you are looking for particular items such as old fashioned dishes or decorative items, you will find those at the yard sale. If you want old wagon wheels, antique furniture or old road signs, get ready to fill up your car with bargains. You name, you can find it at the World's Longest Yard Sale.
What do I need to take with me?
Cash is the first thing you need. Make sure you take more than you think you will need. You won't always find an ATM machine out in the country.
What about food?
You will find some booths that selling various food items. It is best to bring food with you. Again, this is a country-ish road and you won't be spotting a Burger King every few miles. Pack your cooler with sandwiches, fruit, and don't forget water, lots and lots of water. Maybe a candy bar or health bar for a little afternoon pick-me-up!
What should I wear?
Cool clothing. It will be extremely hot and humid along the route. If you are going to be in Tennessee be prepared for hazy, hot and humid weather. There is always a chance of a quick shower or a downpour! Wear comfy shoes; remember that you will be walking a lot. A hat would be a good idea and sun glasses and an umbrella.
What time does it start?
Vendors are usually open for business by 8:00 am and stay open well into the evening.
What else do I need?
Take sunscreen and some lotion. Remember your medications, maps, cell phone, GPS and whatever other little gadgets you can't live without. You might want to bring your camera, as this is something to remember! Don't forget bags for your purchases. Remember, the items you buy need to fit into your vehicle! If you run out of room in your car or truck, stop by a local post office or UPS Store and have your items shipped home.
What will the traffic be like?
The traffic will be slow moving vehicles of all kinds. Drive slow and pay attention to the traffic. If you miss a booth you wanted to visit, pull over when you can and walk back. There will be people and vehicles all over the place. Remember safety first!
Where can I stay overnight?
There are accommodations of all types near the 127 Corridor route. The hotels, motels, cabins and RV Parks will be busy, so be sure to make reservations as early as you can. If you wait until late in the day, you may be out of luck.
