The World's Most Expensive Coffee - Kopi Luwak

Fischer Sharpe
Have you ever drunk from the world's most expensive coffee? Have you ever drunk something that came from a small cat like creatures fecal matter? Would you have ever thought that the answer to one of these questions is dependent upon the other? Well it is.

Some people may think that their Starbucks morning brew is extremely expensive (at perhaps 5 dollars), but that is far from being the most expensive coffee in the world. Other people may look to their favorite fair trade brand (after all helping the people of the world must be expensive). Perhaps the world's most expensive coffee is a blend of coffee from all of the regions around the world. So far none of these coffees even come close to being the most expensive coffee in the world. They also do not come from a strange animal's fecal matter (or so I would hope).

This may sound quite exotic to some people, and disgusting to other people. This very special type of coffee is referred to as Kopi Luwak. It is a specialty in Indonesia and imported to the rest of the world. This coffee is made after coffee beans pass through the stomach of the Palm Civet, which is a small feline creature that is quite similar to the raccoon in nature.

This exotic coffee has been described as having a chocolate taste to it, but at its expensive price of one hundred and fifty dollars per half pound there are not too many people that have enjoyed this delicacy. You can also think of this as roughly seventy five dollars per serving or three hundred dollars per pound.

I would strongly recommend buying this specialty at a restaurant that is known to serve it because your old coffee machine might not be able to brew it without utterly destroying its delicate taste. Moreover a standard thermos is exceedingly inadequate in holding this delicious beverage. The beverage should only be served in the most expensive of ceramics.

If you are not in Indonesia, then you should consider going to your nearest extremely expensive restaurant or hotel for breakfast. Perhaps you could even indulge in caviar or a Lobster Frittata. If you are going out to indulge in this delicacy don't forget that it is considered common decency to tip the water that delivered this delightful fecal matter surprise to you at least 18 percent.
