The Worst Movies of the Decade: Comedy

Light on Yuks, Heavy on Critical Panning

Craig Whyel
When you see a comedy, you want to laugh- a lot. Here are some alleged chuckle fests to avoid.

Be it poor box office, the ire of critics or both, below is a list of the ten worst comedies of the decade (in no particular order):

Cheaper By the Dozen 2 2005 20th Century Fox
Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt
Lots of bad reviews and lousy box office. Some theorized that the ensemble cast was too much of a distraction.

Boat Trip 2003 Artisan Entertainment
Cuba Gooding Jr., Horatio Sanz
A jilted guy and his buddy mistakenly go on a "gay" boat cruise. Aside from a universal panning from critics, this movie only made $8.5 million at the box office.

The New Guy 2002 Revolution Studios
DJ Qualls, Eddie Griffin, Eliza DushkuThe movie did almost $29 million at the box office, which exceeded its $13 million budget but was still paltry. Critics found it to be unoriginal.

The Master of Disguise 2002 Columbia PicturesDana Carvey
Carvey's character was named Pistachio Disguisey. What were they thinking?

Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector 2006 Full Sale Real World Education
Larry The Cable Guy
It exceeded its featherweight budget of $4 million thanks to the fans of Larry The Cable Guy.

Corky Romano 2001 Touchstone Pictures
Chris Kattan
Corky Romano kept alive the long line of unpopular movies starring popular Saturday Night Live performers.

Code Name: The Cleaner 2007 New Line Cinema
Cedric the Entertainer
Cedric the Entertainer plays a regular guy who wakes up in a hotel room alongside a dead FBI agent and a bag of money. It gets worse from there. The movie failed to exceed its $20 million dollar budget.

Witless Protection 2008 Lionsgate
Larry The Cable Guy
Story about a small town deputy who thinks he witnessed a kidnapping. The movie did a face plant at the box office. Movie posters featured Larry with Jenny McCarthy, prompting many to think McCarthy was a co-star when she had a little more than a cameo role.

Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 2004 Sony Pictures
Jon Voight, Scott Baio
A media mogul tries to crack the secret code of baby talk. Critics hated it and it barely made a blip on the box office radar.

Kings Ransom 2005 New Line Cinema
Anthony Anderson, Jay Mohr
A loathsome businessman arranges his own kidnapping to get around his gold digging wife. This movie is ranked as Rottentomatoes.com's worst comedy of the decade.
