The Worst TV Dinner Parties of All Time

Victoria Leigh Miller

Think you get frazzled when you host a dinner party? That's nothing compared to some of the dinner parties that have been thrown on some of our favorite television shows.

Check out these memorable TV dinner party disasters-- and just be glad you weren't on the guest list!

"Bewitched" -- "I Darrin, Take This Witch Samantha" (1964)

Over the eight-season run of the classic 1960s sitcom, "Bewitched," witchy wife Samantha Stephens ( Elizabeth Montgomery ) was known for her magical dinner parties. But the pilot episode of the series features the ultimate in dinner party mishaps, when newlyweds Darrin and Samantha go to a sit-down at Darrin's snooty ex-girlfriend, Sheila's, place. Sam doesn't like Sheila's snobby snarkiness, and proceeds to zap the wig right off of her hostess's pretty head! If you can't beat 'em, twitch 'em!

"Friends" -- "The One Where Ross Got High" (1999)

In this 1999 episode, the gang gathers at Monica and Rachel's place for a dinner party-- and Rach (Jennifer Aniston) is in charge of the dessert. She decides to make an English trifle, but-- after two pages of her cookbook get stuck together-- she inadvertently whips up a combo trifle and.... shepherd's pie? The dinner party ends with sparring sibs Monica and Ross purging a lifetime of pent-up tattletaling to their parents'"and Rachel realizing that sauteed beef and peas don't exactly go with custard, ladyfingers and jam.

"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" -- "The Dinner Party" (1973)

'70s single gal Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) is throwing a dinner party (the guest of honor: Congresswoman Gettys), and creative cook Sue Ann Nivens ( Betty White) helps her out by preparing six perfect portions of Veal Prince Orloff. But when Mare's guest list becomes unexpectedly bloated (a pre- "Happy Days" Henry Winkler is a crasher) she's already short one serving of veal. To make matters worse, her newsroom boss Mr. Grant scoops a whopping three servings on to his plate-- until a horrified Mary tells him he has to put some back.

"Happy Days" -- "My Fair Fonzie" (1977)

In this classic 1970s episode, Fonzie's foray to socialite Cynthia's yacht club dinner party has a messy ending. The host of the party, the snobby Millard, turns his nose up at Fonzie, then fires server Juanita for talking to the guests. So the Fonz fires back by serving Millard some lobster and melted butter'"in his lap. He then tells Cynthia he only dates chicks with class. Heeeeeey!

"Cheers" -- "Thanksgiving Orphans" (1986)

What do you get when a bunch of misfits join together for Thanksgiving dinner? Throw in a giant turkey that just won't cook (codename: "Birdzilla!"), seven hungry bellies and a food fight-- and you've got one of TV's most notorious dinner party disasters. This episode also features a cameo by Norm's never-before- seen wife Vera, although food fight mashed potato remnants still leave her face hidden from viewers!

"The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" -- "The Dinner Party From Hell" (2010)

In this Bravo reality show, hostess with the mostess Camille Grammer hosts a dinner party that ends in a major cougar fight. With psychic Allison DuBois as the guest of honor, the setting is Grammer's gorgeous Malibu estate. But a few fruity cocktails into the festivities, all heck breaks loose. Dubois puffs on an electric cig while she informs "Housewife" Kyle Richards that her hunky husband will never emotionally fulfill her and then tells tag-along guest Faye Resnick to take a flying leap. And that's the tame stuff!

With dinner parties like this, who needs dessert?
