The Worst Video Game Movies Ever

Chris Ware
Unfortunately for all the fan boys out there video games do not often make for good movies. Fortunately Hollywood has tried to make video game movies so many times that there have been an occasional hit video game movie like "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider". For every one hit video game movie there are at least 10 flops. To honor the history of bad video game movies here are the worst video game movies of all time.

"Double Dragon"

The good news about this film is that 2007 has come and gone and none of the stuff in the movie ever happened. While the Double Dragon games were popular and fans wish that they would make more Double Dragon games no one wants to see more Double Dragon movies. The one reason this movie is not higher on the list is no one expected much of it. Most people have only seen this on TV or video if more had paid to see Double Dragon in the movies or been anxiously waiting for its release it would have made it higher on the list. One thing that we can learn from this and all movies on this list is that you should not deviate from the source material.

"Street Fighter"

What made this movie so terrible is the expectations you had for it as a kid. Not only would it have the Street Fighter characters it would have the Super Street Fighter characters. We could not wait to see all our favorite characters from the game. There was some talk about the movie ahead of time but most info was kept quiet until the movie finally came out. Again we learned the movie had nothing to do with the source material. We got a story that went outside of reality but did not go into the Street Fighter world. Fans of Street Fighter knew there were stories behind each character and if you won the game you would find out a little about each character. They could have taken any one of the characters stories and made a good movie but instead they made up there own stupid movie.

All the things you wanted to see in the film like street fighting tournaments, Blanka using his electricity, Sonic Booms, Hadoeken, and some Yoga Fire were absent from this movie. The best things about any character were taken from them. No one did anything they did in the games and most had little if anything to do with the game characters besides names and dress.

If it did not have the Street Fighter name no one would have seen the movie. Having had such high expectations and then been given something so unimaginably bad ruined this film. While "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" was 100% better it to was a bad video game movie but at least it did not make this list.

"Super Mario Brothers"

This was the first and the worst video game movie ever. Fill free to blame all our bad video game movie woes on this film. This film does everything wrong that the other films do but worse. At the time Mario was one of the biggest pop culture figures in the world. We expected a lot from this movie. We at least expected a movie to be like the game. This is one of those movies that you find yourself looking forward to for such a long time and then it ends up disappointing you so much more because how badly it failed to meet your expectations.

It looked like they got a few actors you had seen before but were not A list celebrities and put them into a Sci-Fi post-apocalyptic dystopian B movie then they replaced the original movies characters names with names from the Super Mario franchise. The only ones that resemble the Mario characters at all are Mario and Luigi. For anyone that remembers the King Koopa's Kool Karttons show had a King Koopa that looked more like Koopa.

This movie seriously hurt kids. Princess Daisy's father is this scary looking postulate which probably gave kids nightmares. I saw this film at a friends birthday and recall it being the worst birthday party ever so think of how my friend felt. If I had to watch this or the Star Wars Holiday Special over and over again for the rest of my life I would go with the Star Wars Holiday Special.

The best thin about these bad video game movies is we never have to watch them again.
