The Worthy News

Honduras has figured out it's political problems. Does anybody care? As a matter of fact lots of people do. The world sent a message about coups, government by force and the democratic process.

I've been to Central America, they are a very politically astute region. All the citizens take an interest in every election. Billboards plaster the highways and debates and speeches appear on T.V. every night and the people watch them. Honduras has been a take off and drop off zone for the American military (remember the contras). Guatemala was a military dictatorship run by American corporations and they slaughtered unionists, socialists and innocent Mayan aboriginals. We encouraged Panama go corrupt then had to step in and remove Noriega. We set the death squads loose in El Salvador and Nicaragua. The people of this region didn't appreciate our help and many perished because of it. This recent resolution sends a good sign about our future intent.

Afganistan is having a runoff election next week. Obama sent scary John Kerry to whisper into Karsi's ear. I'm sure he sent a ruthless Kennedy like message, 'Play along or take a bullet.' Now we've got to rig the election to get rid of this crumb bum.

President Obama seems ready to modify our efforts in Afganistan. Get rid of Karsi, protect the population, fortify and train the local troops and take our men out of stupid risk positions. We should buy up the opium crop and use it for world pain relief, let the farmers expand their crop horizons. The world would love their pomegranates, almonds and seed crops. The problem is in chasing away the Russian mafiosa that promotes the heroin trade and estalishing attractive commercial and agricultural zones that will be open and available to the isolated tribal populations plagued by the Taliban.

All the business in Iran seems unreal but the fake re-election of Ahmedinijad and the response from the population has insured a less radical tone. Persian people are sophisticated and very worldly, they enjoy being engage and won't tolerate many more years of scarves and religious intimitation. They will be the power in the region, not because of Islamic might but because they are an intelligent and engaging people.

Here at home we seem ready to pass health care reform. It will be a long overdue good thing. It may take some time to work out the kinks but everyone should profit while we begin the task of streamlining and offering better health options. When this is done and Afganistan is explained Obama's popularity will take a surge. Then we are off to the races.
