The Writer that I Am

April Higney
My writing can be controversial,
sometimes I can be out of bounds.
I can write a sad into happy,
or step on the toes of others on real grounds.

I'm no angel to it all,
explicit content as well as the creative.
I can talk of spiritual aspects,
or the truth to which we live.

My words can show anger,
fear, passion, humor, and the imaginations.
I can put it all to text flowing along,
there are no segregations.

I'm not a politician, running for the senate seat.
I'm just a writer of personal opinion all my own.
I have tattoos, I use to drink, I have partied and I have danced.
I have lived, and learned, and I have grown.

I have written of the finer things in life,
the laughters of my child,
I have been crazy at times,
and then I've been mild.

I can't say I haven't smoked a cigarette,
from heartaches never cried,
but I can say that in all I've ever written of,
in those moments, never lied.

So if you are looking for something to read,
I will lay it all on the table here,
sometimes you'll need to read between the lines,
even when the message is clear.

I cannot put it all in one poem,
what I believe and what I don't,
its not all summarized in a few sentences,
what I will do, and what I won't.

If you're curious of all these things I write of,
maybe someday soon I'll have a biography,
of the life of an artist, a poet, a dreamer,
but you would still not know, all there is of me.
