The Writing Salon Partners with AmaTierra for a Remarkable Retreat
Poet James Navé Brings a Week-Long "Imaginative Storm" to Costa Rica in November
In reality, The Writing Salon is an eclectic kinship of artists who inspire, challenge, and appreciate each other.
A new five-day salon experience has just been announced. The "Imaginative Storm Writing and Creativity Adventure" will be held November 1 - 6, 2009, at the AmaTierra Retreat and Wellness Center in Costa Rica, about an hour outside of the capital city of San Jose.
Navé began developing the creative processes of The Writing Salon while co-producing, along with author Julia Cameron, The Artist's Way Creativity Camps in Taos, New Mexico, from 1995-2001. Combining his experience as a creative force at national Poetry Slams and storytelling festivals, Navé modeled an environment similar to the salons of early 20th century Paris and bohemian America.
Since its inception in 2001, Navé and Huston have staged salons throughout the United States. Internationally, the group has met in France, Ireland, The Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore.
This new site, an exotic, eco-friendly facility located in the Pacific rainforest of Costa Rica at an elevation of 2,000 feet, is an ideal backdrop for Nave's "Imaginative Storm."
Resort accommodations are provided in ten private "casitas", with either single or double occupancy available. Each casita provides guests with modern creature comforts, including a refrigerator, large screen TV, and a Jacuzzi tub. But outside, the grounds have remained as true to their native origins as possible.
"It's a tropical paradise surrounded by nature and beautiful trees, birds and butterflies. You'll love it," promises Bob Ruttenberg. Ruttenberg, along with his wife Jill, owns and operates AmaTierra, which loosely translated means "Beloved Earth".
Participants will hone their improvisational skills, learn to develop well-rounded characters, and delve into creating meaningful dialogue. Seven independent morning and afternoon sessions are intermingled with leisurely breaks to allow for personal journaling, conversations, introspection, exploration, or simple relaxation in the serene oasis formed by nature and lovingly maintained by AmaTierra's owners.
"Our goal is to foster an atmosphere that crackles with passion, fun, and creative spontaneity for writers of all skill levels," says Navé.
To that end, he is planning a light-hearted week full of creative indulgences.
"We will have plenty of time to think, study, read, write, and create. Plenty of time to take advantage of the other amenities AmaTierra offers like yoga, birdwatching, hiking, massage, delicious organic food, trips to the beach, jazz, and lively conversations."
The all inclusive price of $1495 includes The Writing Salon workshops, all meals, and single occupancy lodging. Two participants, sharing a casita, receive a double occupancy rate of $1,295 per person.
