The Year in Reflection

My Birthday

Leslie Boe
It is my birthday. Time that I look back over the past year, see what I have accomplished. I also make plans for what I would like to accomplish in the year to come. I am not very good at being spontaneous, nor do I believe in over planning myself so that my life is a chore. I have found a need for me to make plans to have some fun as well as get the necessary housework done.

When I start this process, I cannot see what I accomplished or occupied my time in the past year. However, then I slow down and take it month by month. Here is 2007-2008:

June = My seasonal job at a garden center was pretty fun work. I went to some Art fairs.

July = Overtime at work. (Not much free time.)

August = Bridal shower for wedding number one.

September = A niece of mine was married. Bridal shower for wedding number two.

October = Another niece was married.

November = A family member had her first surgery for cancer.

December = Christmas baking, decorating, singing carols and Christmas concerts. My nephew added a son to his family. The second surgery for cancer took place and was successful this time.

January = My "thank you that I am alive" month. I was grateful for everyone's health and life.

February = Movies filled my time this month.

March = The snow seems to stick around and not let me outside. Cabin fever is setting in.

April = I moved. I am enjoying where I live.

May = Car troubles. Susan Kommen Breast Cancer walk. An Art fair. The beginning of garage sales!

When I look back, more of my time is spent with family members than I thought. I knew that family was important to me, but this is ridiculous! Enough reflecting, on to making plans for next year.

My plans would include a vacation next summer, but I am on jury duty until next August. Oh well, the extra months will give me more time to save money.

When I moved in, I did not do such a great job organizing myself. I would like to take some time in June to get that done. During all summer months, I will be attending many art fairs, city fests, parades, and concerts in the park.

Over the next year, I would like to learn Spanish and Calligraphy. Of course, I will be writing articles during this year as well.
