The New York Jets started operations in 1960 as the New York Titans. They would later change their name to the New York Jets in 1963. The Jets would play at Shea stadium for almost 15years then would moved home games to share a stadium with the New York Giants located in New Jersey. The Jets would be known as the second NFL team to win a Super Bowl with a victory in Super Bowl III stated by sportsecyclopedia. The win over the favored Baltimore Colts proved to be a star-studded event. Two popular quarterbacks would go face to face, Joe Namath of the Jets and Johnny Unitas of the Colts were the front page. Though the story was on the offense, the game was won by the Jets defense. Letting up one touchdown in the last quarter. Namath would become a legend to the NFL through his run with the Jets. After being Plagued by the injury Namath was released by the Jets in 1976 due to poor performance from the GangGreen. He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams where he only played 4 games then retired.

When the Jets moved their home stadium to New Jersey they voted to stay a New York team. The New York metropolitan fan area would still fall towards the Jets. In the late 1900's the Jets try to regain their swagger from the famous Super Bowl team of the 60's. With the first round pick of the 96 draft the Jets selected wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson from the University of Southern California. Coach Bill Parcells would add on Wayne Chrebet, and Vinny Testaverde to build an offense that could match the staggering offenses of the late 90's with the Broncos, Cowboys, 49ers, and Packers. In 1998 the Jet made it all the way to the AFC championship to face the Denver Broncos. They proved no match for the defending Super Bowl champions and there star running back Terrell Davis. Quarterback Vinnie Testaverde would be hit with a devastating Achilles tendon injury that would take him out of the position for the top quarterback in New York so the weary Jets took looked for a younger star in Chad Pennington reported by NewYorkJets.com. Parcells would build a solid team of younger players including Santana Moss, Laveranues Coles from the Redskins. Over years they have proven to be competition but have yet to reach the Super Bowl. Bill Parcell would leave the Jet to head coach the Cowboys then later direct the Miami Dolphins.

In 2008 the Jets would acquire longtime Greenbay Packer Brett Farve through a trade with the organization. He has replaced Chad Pennington after seven years as the Jet starter. Pennington was then traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
