Saratoga Springs is located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains of New York. It is famous for the health spas and the oldest thoroughbred horse track in the country there is harness racing also.
Saratoga Springs, New York played an important roll in American History. The Battle of Saratoga was the deciding battle of the Revolutionary Way. If the British had won, the United States may well have never been born. It is a fitting place, indeed, for this museum.
Saratoga Springs is popular year long. In summer, for racing and the spas, In winter for skiing and other winter sports. If you are in the area, make time to visit the. New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center It is open year round, so whenever you are in Saratoga Springs, you will be able to make time to visit It will be well worth the trip and a great way for children to learn history. There is an Amtrak station and a Greyhound Bus Station in Saratoga Springs. Saratoga Springs is easy to reach by car also. The New York State Throughway runs right through, or rather over, Saratoga Springs.
The New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center is located in an armory that was built in 1889. As you walk in, you get the feeling of entering a medieval castle. That was the architecture that was popular for armories built at that time. It houses over 10,000 military artifacts from the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm. You can see first hand the equipment that soldiers of 200 years ago used. The real equipment, not reproductions. And best of all there is no admission charge.

New York State Battle Flag Preservation Project
The New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center's permanent collection includes over 1,800 flags from the War of 1812 to the present.
