The New York Times Bashes War Veterans

121 Veterans Linked to Killings. What About the Stats for Non-Veterans?

Donna H. Davey
The dictionary describes an enemy as one who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another.

A malicious enemy, in my opinion, is the MSM propaganda machine who, instead of reporting the news, reports their biased versions of it, many of which have been proven to be untrue.

I find the newest anti-war/anti-military attack from the New York Times to be reprehensible.

On January 13th 2008, The New York Times slimed the military with its claims that 121 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans have committed a killing or been charged with one after returning from combat.

In any group there will always be bad people who commit violent acts against others. However, the New York Times failed to mention that homicides committed by veterans are actually lower than those committed by non-veterans. In the interest of fair reporting, perhaps it should be mentioned that more Americans are killed by illegal aliens than the Iraq war. In an article written by Jim Brown, which was published in February 2007, a report by the Family Security Matters estimated that 2,158 murders are committed every year by illegal aliens in the United States, not including other serious crimes like assault, burglary and rape.

It's an unfortunate commentary on our free press when an article is published with the intent to attack the very same people who volunteer to protect the rights of us all, including the media. I find it atrocious that the media would put forth such a publication on Veterans and label it news while ignoring the far greater number of American's killed by those in our Country illegally, which, according to the New York Times, isn't even worth mentioning.

Additionally, what about the murder rates in cities according to political affiliation? For example, in the fair city of Detroit, in 2004 alone, 384 murders were committed. What group of people will be singled out for blame by the New York Times in those cases? Also among the worst for murder rates are Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and Chicago.

I propose that the media researches numbers to see who commits more crimes in general--Republicans or Democrats, veterans or non-veterans. According to one national study, voting data showed that over 70% of felons would have voted Democratic in U.S. elections dating back to 1972. But that's not news. Instead, 121 murders committed by Veterans are.

To put one's fears to rest, you're more likely to be killed by a non-veteran than you are to be killed by a military veteran. However, expect more hit pieces aimed at the military from our trusty pals in the MSM.

Another Opinion
If the statistics are correct, among the general population of the US, 0.00033% of the population would have committed a homicide in the 6 year period. Among all US veterans (there are approximately 23,532,000 currently), 0.000015% would have committed a homicide in the 6 year period. So, veterans are 22 times LESS LIKELY to have committed a homicide.

I wouldn't have a problem with an article about veterans killing in the US if it was linked to the whys and hows of fixing the problem. Those men and women are under immense pressure, we regular folk have no idea what it would be like to be in a war zone. A critique of violence among vets should not be done as a skewed attack of all vets, but as a way to address and resolve the issue. Great article!

Gosh, I can't imagine the New York Times would print an untruth. They've only been making a living on smearing the very heart of America. If you're diligent enough, you can find statistics to support anything you want them to - unfortunately, the crazy NYT journafascists don't have the intestinal fortitude to print something truthful and worthy of reading. Slop doesn't sell, which is probably why I've seen an influx of NYT commercials on TV.

's media would write something that you just mentioned and not correlate the other things you have included in your own article into theirs. Especially New York papers and magazines that 7 years ago were screaming "kill the bastards" until we went to war. You think somebody, somewhere would have learned from previous wars to respect our troops and spin an article as that as a positive instead of a bashing. The people that wrote it should have placed a medical type history on it and included your last paragraph.

I liked your article here :)

Hey Donna, Katy down there emailed me your article just cause she knows I am interested in war topics. I am usually pretty open about a subject when I read something so being the first time I've read one of your articles don't by any means think of this disrespectful or anything. Your comment "I find it atrocious that the media would put forth such a publication on Veterans" is what caught my eye more than anything in your article along with the entire last paragraph showing that basically those that did kill someone were bad apples. I did a lot of research for the Vietnam war and the press that those Veterans got over any other was ridiculous. They came back hated by virtually all of America thanks to the propagandish reporting over the course of the war. This is a drop in the hat compared to that.

Also I read many articles that speculated how the mental state of our troops after coming home from a tour or time in Iraq and Afghanistan had become or was . Its funny that today'

Here's an interesting article entitled, "New York Times 'Killer Vet' Story Exposed as Erroneous by Pro-Troop Group." (http://www.moveamericaforward.org/index.php/MAF/MAFNews)

This is an outrage.! Our troops deserve our utmost respect--not being slandered and outright crapped on like this. This has me so angry! Great reporting, Donna! Thanks for sharing this, and for shining some light on dirtbags the editors at the New York Times really are.
