The Young Fledgling

Darla M. Beck
A young fledgling awakens at night

Experiencing only a moment of fright

Struck with an uncontrollable thirst

Thoughts of blood always comes first

Bursting from the cold hard ground

Dirt spraying from the grave mound

High up among the stars he flies

Soaring fast across the darkened skies

The scent of fresh blood is in the air

Leading him further away from his lair

His hunger will be quenched tonight

While the full moon is shining bright

The vampire suddenly attacks his prey

Not allowing his victim to get away

Overpowered by the dark embrace

Mortal's heartbeat starts to race

Entranced by the vampire's kiss

Victim is feeling pain-filled bliss

Trapped within the hypnotic spell

Entering through the gates of Hell

Nevermore will he be living free

His soul is doomed for eternity

Immortal being is on the prowl

Silence shattered by his howl

Others answer from far and near

Humans are trembling with fear

Beware when you go out tonight

You may fall victim to his bite
