The Yueng & the Ling of Quality Affordable Craft Beer: A Review of Yuengling Black & Tan from D. G. Yuengling & Son, Inc

I picked this stuff up when I was in Nashville last weekend and at $5.99 a six pack I didn't think that I could lose. Being the beer Kreskin that I am, I was pleasantly surprised to be right once again my friends. I've always wanted to try something from our nation's oldest brewery and this beer doesn't disappoint.

Now, it's not on par with some of the better craft porters but it delivers a solid dark semi-smokey and slightly fruity estered taste that you wouldn't expect from a more mainstream, "macro-brewer". But Yuengling isn't really a "macro" swill contributor are they? No, they are a small brewer trying to keep their niche in the market and producing something akin to Spudweiser would be the death of them.

Although I have a feeling that Yuengling's lager is probably on par with the Budweisers of the world and that it wouldn't be quite to my liking, that's another blog posting and predicament to consider. Presently I'm soaking my cow tongue in creamy cocoa suds which is testament enough to the fact that this Black & Tan delights on all levels.

JT, I've actually tried the Amber Lager just not their Premium Lager or whatever it's called and it's pretty good. I've been told by others that it's pretty pointless to try their Premium unless you're really into lagers which I'm not. Thanks for the comment!

Try the, "Lager," before you disparage. IMHO, it's the best, MOST AVAILABLE (in their distribution area) everyman's lager hands down. Walk into any PA, NJ, DE joint and just say lager. And if your waist-line concerned, the Yuen Lager Light has a more substantial/better taste than any of the mass produced MBC swills.
