TheHungerSite.com - Feed the Hungry for Free

Veronica S.
One morning, when I was a student, a teacher of mine wrote a web address on the chalkboard, proceeding to tell us that this site should be everyone's new homepage on their personal computers. He simply said, it was free and we should just do it everyday when we use the internet. The web address is

The Hunger Site is one of a network of websites designed to use the internet to fund charitable organizations, called GreaterGood.org. The Hunger Site, The Breast Cancer Site, The Child Health Site, The Literacy Site, The Rainforest Site, and The Animal Rescue Site are all a part of GreaterGood.org, and are all constructed for an internet user to help a good cause completely free. All you have to do is click on the link that says, "Click to Give" on any of the sites and you will donate food, books, healthcare, etc. to those who are less fortunate, without spending a dime. The sites are completely run by sponsors.

The simple idea of having one of these sites on your homepage, which you click on everyday before surfing the web, is kind of a boost to your day. No matter how many hours you waste on the computer, you at least took one second out of your day to feed a starving child. It's really quite amazing that with a click of a button you can help save part of a rainforest, or teach a child to read. And it literally takes two seconds of your time. You don't have to sign up for anything, and you don't have to have a membership or receive any junk e-mail.

It's also a good starting point for those out there who want to do more charitable acts. The websites have stores in which you can buy jewelry, clothing, handbags, hundreds of different trinkets that would make great gifts, and from which the profits are also used for charity. Many times they have free shipping, and are relatively cheaply priced items from different countries.

I personally use The Hunger Site as my homepage, where every one of my clicks donates 1.1 cups of food to the hungry (doesn't seem like a lot, but it really adds up), but the other sites are just as charitable in different ways. The Breast Cancer Site gives a woman a free mammogram with every click, The Child Health Site helps one child with healthcare, The Literacy Site donates books to children to help them attain literacy, The Rainforest Site protects 11.4 square feet of rainforest with every click, and The Animal Rescue Site donates .6 bowls of food to rescued animals every time you click. Whichever site you choose, they all are for various good causes. They are also all linked to one another, so if you wanted to you could click on all the sites everyday (though it may take 12 seconds instead of 2 seconds). Also, each page records the progress of the donations from the clicks, so you can see how you're making a difference.

The question you really need to ask yourself is, why not? It's completely free, and all you are doing is helping out the less fortunate before you go check your e-mail or search for something on Google. Do you really need to have Yahoo! or MSN as your homepage? Does it really make that much of a difference? By having one of these sites instead, it reminds you to click everyday and you're donating that much more, than if you simply just visit the websites every once in awhile. So go for it, and get your good deed in everyday with little or no effort. The more we click, the more we can make a difference.

www.thehungersite.com and it has been my homepage ever since.
