Write like the poet
As if you know it
Copy his style
And make me smile
All I can do is try.
I am twenty-two for a few more months, hailing from Whiteville
I went to school there, and now I am here.
I am the nerd in the front row.
MLK Parkway leads me home,
Past the airport
Past the busy crowd of Market Street
I turn onto Kerr, then onto McClelland
Pulling into my drive, I begin my paper:
I'm not an easy one to understand
Trying to mimic an adult's behavior
While still looking like a child
I hear the talk around me
(It's a hard thing to ignore) Their sounds-impervious.
I like many things out of the norm
I try to remain eclectic.
My music style is stranger,
Anything from metal to rock to classical.
Being different doesn't make me stupid
Compared to other people.
So why do I still stand out?
It's simple; it's because I want to.
Despite the differences
There are many similarities.
We all live together
Here in America.
The land of the seemingly free.
We all manage to coexist
Even though we may not always want to.
But we do.
Embrace the creativity
Learn from each other
Unite as one
Like a child and its mother
This is my theme for English 131, there could be no other.
