Theme Ideas for Your Child's Easter Basket

Sally Albright
Children are delighted on Easter morning to find an Easter basket waiting for them. You can make sure to create an Easter basket that your child will love by creating a basket based on a particular theme idea. Here are several theme ideas to get you started on creating Easter baskets your kids will love.

Hidden Treasures-Themed Easter Basket

Instead of placing everything in sight in your child's Easter basket try hiding them in the Easter grass. Small treasures can be placed in various spots in the Easter grass for your child to dig through and find. Items from the quarter machine would work great with this basket theme. You could also plant gold wrapped chocolate coins in the Easter basket as well. In the middle bottom of the basket you can plant a treasure chest holding a few special items. You can find small paper boxes at the craft store to be used as your treasure chest. You can fill it with plastic necklaces, rings, candy jewelry, buttons to wear, or whatever else will fit into the small box. You can use blue Easter grass to mimic the ocean and place a pirate ship toy for the bath on top. If you can't find a pirate ship bath toy you can place any other boat toy on the top of the Easter grass instead. Or you could use brown shredded paper in place of Easter grass and place a digging truck type of toy on top.

Tip: Instead of using Easter grass to fill your basket why not use shredded colored paper instead? Great items for shredding would also include your child's artwork that you don't wish to keep. If your children are like mine they draw hundreds of pictures each day and you can't possibly keep them all. While the shredded paper can still create a mess it is easier to see shredded paper than Easter grass on your carpet.

Spring-Themed Easter Basket

Spring is a welcoming sight after having spent several months dealing with the cold winter weather. As the temperatures rise and the sun shines again your children are probably eager to head back outside for some outdoor spring time fun. You can encourage them to want to play outdoors by creating an Easter basket filled with fun outdoor entertainment. Jump ropes, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, kites, pinwheels, butterfly nets, bug catching jars, and more can be just what your child needs to entertain themselves during the spring months. You can sometimes find candy bugs in a jar or make your own using a clean jar, gummy bugs or worms, and crushed chocolate wafer cookies. Your kids are sure to have endless fun with this Easter basket idea.

Bird's Nest-Themed Easter Basket

Is your child interested in birds or wildlife watching? You can create an Easter basket for them which include items that go with this hobby. At the bottom of the basket beneath the grass you can include a small field guide and binoculars for your child to enjoy watching birds and other wildlife with. To give them a hint about what they will find underneath the Easter grass you can set chocolate eggs, such as Cadbury, on top of the grass and have a stuffed animal duck or chick sitting on top of the eggs. Or for a wildlife theme you can place a variety of inexpensive small stuffed animals on top of the Easter grass instead.

Cute Animal Themed Easter Basket

Cadbury Eggs has had a commercial advertising their product using a chick and a rabbit for Easter. These two animals are very cute and furry and are the perfect representation of Easter and spring. If your child is into cute cuddly animals then this Easter basket theme idea would work well for you. You can find many Easter candies and chocolates shaped like these cute cuddly creatures and are often inexpensive as well. Throw in an inexpensive stuffed animal along with novelty items featuring these animals into the Easter basket as well and you've just created a fun themed Easter basket your child is sure to love.

Baby's First Easter-Themed Easter Basket

Every time your baby reaches another "first" it is always exciting. Baby's first Easter is no exception. While your baby won't care if they receive an Easter basket or not you can still give them an Easter basket that is sure to create memories for you as a parent. Be sure not to use any Easter grass in your baby's first Easter basket as it can pose as a choking hazard. One item that would be perfect for your baby's first Easter basket is a cloth photo album. You can place pictures of you and your family, as well as baby, from Easter into the photo album for your baby to look at. Later this cloth book and photos can become a memorable keepsake from their first Easter. Just as you can find Baby's First Christmas rattles you will likely find Baby's First Easter rattles or other such items for sale at your local baby store which can make a great addition to their Easter basket. Older babies who are able to self feed can have items such as Zwieback toast or Biter Biscuits as their special treat. A necklace with a special pendant, such as a cross or a heart, can be included in their basket for them to wear when they become older. The necklace will be special to them later in life as it was given to them on their first Easter. You can place all of your baby's Easter gifts and treats into a organizing basket lined in a fabric which matches the theme for their nursery, this way you can use the basket to organize toys, burp clothes, or other items after Easter.

Using one of these themed Easter basket ideas you can create a fun Easter basket for your child to enjoy. Not only will your child enjoy these themed baskets but you are sure to have fun making one as well.

Love your ideas! I'm going with kind of a spring theme this year . . . sidewalk chalk, bubbles, & plastic bugs hidden in eggs. (I have boys!!!)

These ideas are great! A lot better than just dumping the candy in the basket and calling it a day...like I usually do :)
