Theme Ideas for Graduation Parties

Amy Stepp
Graduation is that time of year where tears are shed, laughter happens and the most important thing that occurs are the many parties that will be thrown! If you are throwing a graduation party and having a hard time deciding on what your party will be, then read below on the list of themes I am providing you to get your graduation party started!

1. Retro Themed Graduation Party
Start with the year your child started school. For example I started school in 1985. Take that year and make a party theme out of it. Music will be songs from that years top charting list. Food can be items that your child often loved to eat like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and candy that they often loved to eat. Decorations can fall under the category of popular toys during that era. Bring out all those old clothes you have stored way in keepsake boxes to decorate the walls with and tables you will be serving food on.

2. College Hoodie Party
Your child just graduated from high school and college is soon in their future. Hopefully they have already decided where they will be attending. When you are making out the invitation for this party try to find invitation with the logo from the college your child is attending. Inside the invitation have a section where it asks the guest to wear clothes from that university as in shirts, hats and other clothing items. Foods can be served tailgate style like they would at the colleges football games or any other sporting events. Music that can be played could be the fight song from the college. Decorations are simple crate paper and ribbons in the colleges colors and even throw in some pom poms and pendents.

3. Traveling Party
If you are throwing a college graduation party then a really unique idea would be a traveling themed one. This will allow you to decorate with pictures of places kids would love to travel after graduation like Spain, Africa and so on. Music can be certain national anthems from where you are picking your pictures from. Food would be very easy to figure out, all you would need to do is have a authentic dish from that country.

4. Occupational Party
Once your child graduates from high school they are going to really need on a degree they will be going for in college, basically what do they want to be once they grow up (if they ever do, right?). Lets use a doctor for instance. Invitations can be cut out of construction paper of what a prescription looks like. Decorations can be all the supplies a doctor uses like stethoscope, pill jars, reaction hammer and so on. Music can be in the form of classic like opera. Food can be different items that represents body parts. Like hot dogs for fingers, spaghetti for intestines, and eggs for eyeballs.

5. Memory Party
If you want simple and basic then this is the way to go. I am sure you have pictures you have collected over the years from when your child did the school play or swam in the school state swimming meet. Use those pictures and projects they created in school as your decorations. For music you can play certain songs that have a meaning to special events in their life. Invitations should be in a form of a favorite picture that your child was in. Get them copied and printed up at your local photography store. Food can be simple finger foods to keep your budget low like small sandwiches, chips and dip and even fruit and vegetable plates.
