Theme Parks and Amusement Parks: Family Fun for Kids in Austria
Where to Find Great Rides for Your Family to Enjoy when Traveling Austria
Fortunately, Austria has a few theme parks and family vacation sites that can help entertain raucous children during the trip. Those who wish to include a bit of history and architecture in their amusement park visit would be delighted to see "Minimundus" in Klagenfurt, Austria, an awesome collection of miniature historical and notable buildings, including a miniature Statue of Liberty, a miniature Taj Mahal, and a seriously huge collection of miniature palaces, boats and miniature landmarks from all over the world. Who doesn't like tiny buildings? This is like an awesome version of the Storyland Train Ride at Disneyland that has all of those little tiny reproductions of fairy tales.
Fans of fairy tales who want a more fantastic fairytale themed park might enjoy Märchenpark Neusiedlersee
St. Margarethen, or Fairy Tale Park Neusiedlersee, located in Burgenland. The Fairy Tale Park is a children's fairytale theme park in Austria which also has snack kiosks and a petting zoo. They have 25 acres of fairytale themed park, and an estimated 250 animals. The Fairy Tale Park is open from April to September, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
In Vienna lies one of the most famous amusement parks in Austria, Wurstelprater. The Wurstelprater can also be called the Weiner-Prater, the Weinerprater, the Volksprater, or just "The Prater". The Prater has been a public park since the mid-1700s, and before that it was a hunting park. It houses a giant ferris wheel, a miniature train, a planetarium, and several other rides, including a large roller coaster. The Prater is open March 13 to Halloween, day and night, with attractions available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. local time.
It's best to bear in mind that aside from public amusement parks, most theme park related places in Austria are open from April to September, when the weather is nice and the travelers and tourists are in town to come to their park. Travelers who wish to visit Austria's theme parks with their kids should make sure to travel in the Spring, Summer or early Fall. It would be unfortunate to plan a theme park trip in the winter when the theme parks are closed for the season.
