Theo's Cheese Steak Shop in San Francisco, California

As someone who has spent a lot of time in Philadelphia, I was a little skeptical when I as in San Francisco on business and saw a sign for Philadelphia Cheese Steaks. My opinion changed when I saw the Amoroso rolls. Theo's Cheese Steak Shop is located in the Rincon Center Courtyard in San Francisco, it is a location you will probably never find if you don't go looking for it. I highly recommend finding this Philadelphia Cheese Steak shop in San Francisco. As someone who has had many cheese steaks in Philadelphia, these are as close as you can get outside of Philadelphia at Theo's Cheese Steak Shop.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Amoroso rolls, these are what truly makes a Philadelphia cheese steak what it is. They are very hard to find outside of Philadelphia, even in my home town near Baltimore, Maryland which is much closer to Philadelphia than San Francisco is. The rolls are crisp on the outside but soft and doughy on the inside. Even though they are soft, they are more filling than many other larger rolls.

The steak is cooked perfectly at Theo's Cheese Steak Shop. As any true philly cheese steak should, the cheese steaks at Theo's Cheese Steak Shop in San Francisco has grilled onions mixed in with the steak. They are grilled perfectly as well. The menu has many different styles of cheese steaks you can order. They all start with steak and onions, you can then add cheese, mushrooms, bell peppers, BBQ sauce, or bacon depending on the variety of cheese steak you choose. You can even add chili to your steak if you want to be adventurous. The cheese steaks come standard with either mozzarella or provolone cheese, but for fifty cents additional you can have cheese whiz on your cheese steak.

The two times I visited Theo's Cheese Steak Shop, back to back nights by the way, I went with the pizza cheese steak that had onions, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Theo's Cheese Steak Shop also has a selection of peppers in the condiment bar next to the ketchup and mustard that includes both hot and sweet cherry peppers, and jalapenos. So, you can control the heat of your cheese steak and make it as hot as you wish. The fries are great at Theo's Cheese Steak Shop as well, they come in standard and curly fry varieties. If you want something unique try their sesame chicken with onions and cheese sub, I heard from others in the restaurant that tried it that it is a great unique sub.

So, when you are in San Francisco, if you want to find a nice meal including an incredible cheese steak, fries, and a soda for under ten dollars, you have to visit Theo's Cheese Steak Shop. It lives up to it's reputation as a Philly style cheese steak shop.
