Therapy Dog Class Offered in Montrose, Colorado

Sandy James

There's a saying that, "Man's best friend is a dog" and for those of us who love our pets, this is true. Some of us think that a cat is a human's best friend, but regardless of which type of pet you prefer, we can all agree that our furry companions put a lot of joy and comradeship into our lives.

Now think about our seniors, children, and other disabled or injured adults living in nursing homes, hospitals, and other medical facilities. Many of these people are living temporarily without their pets and would love a visit from a furry companion. That is why many nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and other medical facilities allow therapy dogs to visit patients and give them a few hours of unconditional love and joy.

Visiting dogs or therapy dogs come in all shapes, sizes, breeds, and colors. If you have a dog that you'd like to share with others by becoming a therapy dog team, then you may want to check out this free class for therapy dogs. The Montrose Recreation District is offering this class free of charge to anyone interested in working with their dog as a therapy dog team.

Interesting! I wish we had such a class where I live. Perhaps these classes will catch on.

Yes, I agree. Pets are great to have around. When I worked at Children's hospital, they had volunteer pets dressed in costumes and it really made a difference with the kids who were patients there.

Sandy, I loved your article on the alternative Halloween ideas for kids with allergies - but couldn't leave a comment. My folks use to keep a stack of comic books for kids in the neighborhood who had diabetes and couldn't sugar-up! This was a good article, too. cheers :)

I think this is an incredible undertaking. Today at the gym a lady was there with her therapy dog.
