There is a Lack of Respect in Modern Society

No One Respects Anyone Else Because No One Treats Themselves with Any Respect

Christopher
I was watching a fun video on YouTube about a girl that wore a controversial shirt in a court room and ended up getting two days in jail. It was a funny story, and I won't go into the details about the shirt you can click on the link to watch the video. But it makes me wonder a bit; you know I am in all of these message boards and hear about how my people are disrespectful and men do not respect women and vice versa but then I have to come to the conclusion that in todays society no one has any respect for anyone else. I mean absolutely no one.

When I was going to church years ago I remember vividly how people did not respect the pastor of the church. Some of it may have to do with the fact that the pastor was a woman but then again come to think of it one could easily come to the conclusion that she did not respect the parishioners. The leadership of that church did not respect each other and there was a moral deficit over all. As interesting as that was when it was going on it makes it difficult to attend a sane church where there is some order without your usual conflicts.

We come down on children for not respecting their parents only to find out that the parents do not seem to have any respect for their children. You cannot discipline your children if you do not have any respect for them. You really, really, cannot discipline your children effectively if you regret having your children, or still want to have a life in which you do not have to deal with your children. Some would say that being your child's best friend is disrespectful, well it all depends on the context of that friendship. If it is a way for you to escape your responsibilities as an adult as in, you probably are not truly an adult yourself then it can be quite harmful.

The thing about this culture of disrespect is that you often see it from people that do not respect themselves. They talk a good game, but they do not feel that good about themselves, so they project out onto everyone else. So how can we ever respect someone that is supposed to be in a position of authority over us when we do not respect ourselves? Honestly, I mean I used to listen to all of the punk, rap, hip-hop, hardcore rock music and everything else but a lot of that angst and hostility towards the authorities and the American government ends up turning into your usual hatred towards mankind. It starts from a place where you can relate but ends up somewhere completely different.

This is a society where everyone is torn and everyone has their own issues with themselves, so they are not in a position where they can respect anyone else. You cannot honestly and realistically expect respect. We want to earn someone's respect because we are respectful; sometimes we think we are and sometimes we really do show others respect, but when the person we want that respect from does not respect themselves we are never going to get the respect. People will just tip-toe around us and be polite.

There were times when you had respect for your parents and other times when you were afraid of the consequences so your adjusted your behavior accordingly. You may act right, but it may not be for the right reasons. The same goes with the American government who I do not believe has ever shown its citizens respect in my lifetime. Perhaps back in the day in the sixties and earlier when I was not around they have, but I cannot remember a time when they ever did. The government that I know manipulates and controls its citizens by playing with their emotions and invoking fear into their hearts. The government I know allows corporations to operate in an environment that is unchecked and unregulated, for the most part, with minimal controls to allow businesses to do what they need to do to maximize profits. We want the government to step in now and clean up this country. But the controls will only be in place for a short time, we will become a profitable and prosperous nation again, and then everything will come crashing down on us all over again.

Everything in 2030 will be the same as it was in 2007. I am seriously reconsidering this whole issue about respect. The best that I can do is to show you some respect. If you show me some respect that is good, but if you do not I understand. Not that I agree, not that I am okay with it, but I think that I finally understand. It is Mother's Day; I will call my mother and ask her what she did today and ask who gave her chocolates and flowers and enjoy another lazy Sunday afternoon, as I do every Mother's Day. Enjoy my mother while I still have her with me. It is better than having to endure with the disrespect that exists in this world ...
