While there are many innovative ways to complete your education, one of the key factors is trying to decide what program is best suited for you. For some it may require attending a traditional college, and for others it can be to complete their education via the Internet, or to take night classes.
Whatever your means of learning what is important is to make a selection that will work best for you. Here are some of the various methods of learning:
Distance Education
College education is virtually unlimited in the many formats that you can learn through this environment. You can choose to learn via the Internet, teleconferencing, video, DVD and CD. This mode of learning would be more geared toward the technical bound person who is familiar with all types of computer media, and who is also on the go. Although, this makes for a flexible program, it requires a person who is willing to be disciplined and to commit to completing work on time.
College / University
This is a more traditional approach to education, where you attend classes on campus. This might be a better choice for someone who enjoys personal interaction with an instructor, and with fellow classmates. There are a variety of choices that a student can utilize such as whether to attend classes during the day or night. You may also choose to participate in activities that are offered on campus.
There are many ways to save on college tuition as well.
One way to save on tuition costs is to attend a community college. Community colleges are two year educational institutions that offer Associate degrees in many disciples. This is a great way to earn a two year degree, and then make a transfer to a 4 year institution that will allow you to earn a Bachelor's degree.
Many 4 year colleges and universities will accept most, if not all, transfer credit from a community college. As there are many college choices, there are some bogus companies that strive to get students that aren't familiar with accreditation to jump into a program, and believe that they can earn a degree, "In 30 days or less!" As the old adage says, "If it is too good to be true, it probably is."
Make sure that the college or university that you are attending has proper accreditation. There are many methods of accreditation, but the standard method of accreditation is regional accreditation. There are six regionally accredited bodies. These include:
1. Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA);
2. New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC);
3. North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA);
4. Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NWCCU);
5. Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS);
6. Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Another form of accreditation is national accreditation. While regional accreditation is the norm and standard, some colleges and universities will accept nationally accredited programs in transfer. The national accredited places that are accepted from some colleges and universities are:
1. American Council on Education (ACE);
2. Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).
Ways to pay for college.
College costs can be expensive when enrolling into a degree program. There are many outlets to fund your educational costs. Many companies will help pay for the cost of tuition at an accredited college or university if you maintain a certain GPA, or earn a passing grade of "C," or higher. Some require that the program that you are participating in be job related or an opportunity for advancement.
The most widely used source of college funding is financial aid. If you attend an accredited college or university, it would be best for you to visit your financial aid office as this is an excellent way to get information on many types of financing, whether through grants, scholarships, payment plans, and work study programs.
As with any costly endeavor, what is important is for you to take advantage of all that you are entitled to. The person who is vigorous and has the determination to succeed, most likely will. Be sure to get all the information that you can and take sometime to decide on what will work best for you, and once you have decided, you can then begin your educational journey.
