There is No Pilot Flying Your Plane?

Believe it or Not - the Pilot is Not a Pilot

Thomas Salme is and has always worked at maintaining airplane, and never bothered to learn how to fly. As a matter of fact, he never took lessons or got his pilot license.

Why should he have bothered to spend the time and money for pilots lessons, when he had his trusty little flight simulator as one of his most treasured video games and was able to learn how to from the privacy of his own home.

It was easy enough for him to print his own pilot license. After all, who really looks closely at that, and when he put on a regulation pilots outfit and hat, he looked just like any other Boeing 737 pilot who flew only night flights.

When asked why, Thomas said he got the urge to become a pilot. He lived in Sweden, where I guess they do not check the pilots credentials at night. After all, what pilot really wants to fly night flights, and if he was available, then so be it! He flew the flights.

Since all licenses look different depending on the country, no one ever took a good look at his until one fateful night.

There were over a hundred passengers on the plane that was sitting and waiting for take-off. The pilot just by chance happened to be stopped by the police.

Instead of flying that night, he landed in jail, and the saddest part of this story is that he was merely fined a few thousand dollars and banned from flying for only one year.

Next time you get on a flight, it might be fitting to wonder about who is flying the plane, and wonder if he has really learned how to fly?

This pilot flew without a license for over 13 years and no one ever checked his license. I wonder if a passenger has the right to ask the pilot to show them their license when they board the airplane?
