There Are Over 100 Different Types of Headaches

A headache is a common complaint that people have. Often they think that it will go away soon or be a suffer of migraines. Most people have at least experienced an "ice cream headache" when you eat something cold too fast. This type of headache usually only lasts for a few minutes.

There are also many other types of headaches. The public is not very well versed in them. Surprisingly many doctors are not either. This is because there are a large number of headache types and conditions. In fact, there are over 100 reasons for a headache to occur.

Many of them can be very serious while others are not so serious. The common headache types that people hear the most about are migraine, tension headache, and cluster headache. Headache types do favor genders and women seem to be more effected for most types.

Even so there are a lot of other sources for head pain. You can find a headache hierarchy chart located on teethremoval.com . It provides nearly ever condition that could possibly cause a headache arranged in a medical grouping chart.

If you suspect that something could be the cause you can research the headache type through a web search engine or other means. Libraries and other reference materials could contain out of date information though. Even so sometimes old information can be important and become lost after no one uses it.

One of the best ways to explore other types of headaches is through the International Headache Society. There are a team of medical researchers who are dedicated to finding new headache types and investigating current headache types even more. They provide diagnostic criteria and other evidence that has been found about headaches. This can help doctors and patients alike be able to distinguish what type of headache is causing their problems.

The International Headache Society has classified all known headache types. There really are a lot of them. You can explore them further through this link. This could help yourself or a loved one finally find that diagnosis that your doctor has failed to do.

For example one obscure headache types is nasociliary neuralgia which is characterized by pain on the inside of the nose. There are a lot of other obscure headache types like this. I have encountered someone online who finally found out he had a rare neuralgia after six years and seeing over 25 different doctors. This really does happen.

Patients need to understand that doctors can't always find out what is wrong with them. This is the sad reality. There is a wealth of knowledge of information out there and everyone knows something different. More training of headache specialists is necessary and they should all familiar themselves with the guidelines set out by the International Headache Society.
