There was Something Insincere about Eliot Sptizer

New York Governor Involved in Prostitution Ring

Kat V
As Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer fought prostitution rings as part of an organized crime task force. As Governor, a position he began in January 2007, he found himself knee-deep in one. The news of his involvement with The Emperor VIP Club, a call girl service for the elite, leaked through a wiretapped phone call that took place on February 13th. Spitzer, who is identified as Client 9 in the wiretap, was in a Washington D.C. hotel room making traveling arrangement with one of the prostitutes from New York.

On March 10, Spitzer made an appearance to discuss the "private matter", his wife at his side in support. It was a brief statement, and Spizter avoided talk about a possible resignation. However, on his way out, three reporters asked if it was in the probable future. It's unclear as to whether or not the Governor will leave his office or not, but one thing is clear; Mr. Spitzer is a big-time hypocrite.

Eliot Spitzer was born in an affluent section of the Bronx, New York in 1959 and attended Harvard University after receiving a near-perfect score on the SAT. After Harvard, he went on to attend Princeton University for law school. He only practiced law for two years before joining the Manhattan district attorney's office. While there, he went after the Gambino crime family for their control of various industries in Manhattan.

While serving as Attorney General, one of his pet projects was the dismantling of prostitution rings. In 2004, he successfully brought 16 people who were operating a ring in Staten Island to justice. His comments about the "business" were also quite passionate, as The New York Times quoted him as speaking with "revulsion and anger" about it. Ironically enough, it was a sophisticated business, just like the The Emperor VIP Club.

Speaking out of "revulsion and anger" I can say I feel the same way, about the Governor. When he was running for office I sensed there was something insincere about him. One can say that about all politicians, but Spitzer had all the more to prove since his prior office was about bringing justice to the people. I voted for Republican John Faso with both my fingers crossed, but the people of New York had GOP leadership for eight years under George Pataki, and I knew the state's Blue colors would show again eventually.

This isn't the first time Spitzer's been involved in scandal. Over the last year, Republican Majority Leader Joseph Bruno has had to deal with defamation of character by one of Spitzer's top aides. Spitzer and Bruno have also shared a war of words after the Governor proposed a 1.2 billion dollar healthcare cut and the closure of hospitals in order to trim costs he deems unnecessary.

If Spizter resigns, and I hope he does, his replacement would be current Lt. Governor David Paterson. Mr. Paterson has already made history as the first legally blind and African-American person to hold the office of Lt. Governor.

Apparently you did pick up early regarding his insincere reactions.Glad he is out and hope the New Govener deems worthy of the office in spite of the difficulties he and wife acknowledge up front.

Nice article Kat! but i do believe we should not forget that he helped turn Ny crime greatly and I believe the ones who hated him so much got their payback! Also, this is personals matters between him and his wife and it should be left that way. i know he is not the only one who has done these things in American government. Look at the republican representative as well as Hillary and Bill, which it seems a lot of people have forgotten. This is one of the reasons why I want Obama as president because we need something new and different.

I am still amazed how someone who had everything going for him would throw it all away for a momentary thrill.
