There's a Glow - A Thanksgiving Poem

H. L. Myers
roasting on an ember

this empty November

we gather our folks

sit round and tell jokes

until someone chokes!

it would serve you right

for spending this night

in homes full of light

with no end in sight

to the glorious feast

you've slaughtered the beast

your girths not decreased

while elsewhere you know

people slog through the snow

with nowhere to go

but wait! there's a glow

from a place down the street

where those with tired feet

can sit down to eat

and the fine folks there

show they really care

their time they will share

if your cupboard is bare

these generous givers

will take all your shivers

and love they'll deliver

they won't take your pay

so be grateful and say

'Thanks so much for this day!'
