People from all over the world travel to Vail, Colorado to ski in the winter. Not as many people know, however, that Vail is also a great place for a summer vacation.

There is definitely plenty of skiing available in the winter in Vail. The city is considered by many to be the top ski resort in North America. Vail Mountain spans more than seven miles and includes the legendary Black Bowels. When you visit, you might find 40 feet of snow on the ground. There are often 300 days a year of blue sky in the area. There is more groomed terrain in the area than anywhere on earth. Many people come to Vail every year because they enjoy skiing in the area so much. On the Front Side there are 128 individual trails. There are 645 acres of adventure terrain on Blue Sky Basin.

If you are not an accomplished skier, one of the expert instructors at Vail Snowsports School will teach you how to enjoy the 5,289 acres in the area. The expert teachers at the Children's Snowsports School can teach your children how to ski. The area also has teachers who can show your 5-6-year-olds how to enjoy snowboarding on the gentle terrain.

There is more to do in the winter at Vail than just skiing. At Adventure Ridge you can go ski-biking, use the bungee trampoline, go tubing, and more. There is a Western Family Dinner Theater, where you can enjoy a buffet style meal, and the entertaining stories of the Buckaroo Banana Bunch.

Just miles from the mountain there is music and dancing to enjoy and many spas to relax in.

Some of the other winter activities in Vail include the Vail Tannenbaum Christmas Festival, which includes family activities, street markets, and ice skating; the Vail Holidaze; and the Vail Snow Daze, which includes three huge concerts. There are many other events.

In the summer, one taking a vacation to Vail can enjoy ATV tours, art galleries, bike tours, fishing trips, golf, hiking, jeep tours, paintball, shopping, spas, rafting, and the Skiing Hall of Fame.

You can also European breads and pastries at Alpenrose, the Prime Rib at the Lancelot, the Sapphire Restaurant at Oyster Bar, the healthy food at Terra Bistro, and at many other fine and well known restaurants. There is also dancing and live music that is easy to find as you listen when traveling through the town.

The area around Vail is beautiful to look at. The art galleries in town have art that showcases the beautiful scenery of the area. Some galleries have more contemporary art, such as blown glass pieces, furniture, paintings, and jewelry. Other galleries have pictures, paintings, and sculptures, representing the work of more than 50 artists. There are many art galleries in the town, including Artful Sol, Cardinal Gallery, Vail International Gallery, the Wall Street Gallery, and Masters Gallery of Vail.

"Skiing in Vail, Colorado, I visited Vail Colorado from Saturday Dec 4 thru Saturday Dec 11, 2010," Hank92 said of the skiing in Vail on tripadvisor.com. "The skiing was the best that I can remember for this early in the season."

Whatever time of the year you plan to Vail, you will find plenty to do, even if the area is not yet ready for skiing.
