Maybe this man was forced to turn his anger inward in a society which does not allow its members to confide in anyone, particularly if you are a man.
A way of life that demands that all our sins be swept under the rug regardless of the suffering will contribute to such internalized repression that the sinner may blow up when it becomes unbearable. Us modern folk are able to attend confession, talk to a minister or rabbi, or seek counsel of a mental health professional.
Is this discouraged or downright prohibited among the Amish under the banner of; "It's god's will that you must suffer in silence"? This aura of moral superiority is only smoke and mirrors, as this shooting shows that they are fallible humans like all of us.
