There's a Storm Coming

Abby Normal
There's a storm coming
I see it ahead
I'm not going to fight it
from a hospital bed

The doctor's words are like lightning
delivered in a flash
"In a little while you'll be history
cremated bones and ash"

My response to him was like thunder
delivered with a boom
spinning him on his little chair
clear across the room

"No more tests, drugs or surgeries"
Too many years in chronic pain
The disease is gift a way out
In his eyes I could see the distain

I have danced the dance with the Reaper
a couple of times before
It was me who sent him packin'
right back out the door

So when I see the dark clouds coming
know my life's not been in vain
I intend on going out dancing
in a warm and gentle rain

I love poetry and take to writing it in spells. The poem on my profile page called Praying for Blackness was written in the dead of the night after finding out my mom had ovarian cancer. From your poem it sounds as if your mother suffered an illness as well. Im glad you can express this experience in words. I feel being able to do so is like therapy to the soul. *Rio sends a purr and kitty rub back*
