These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

What is Important to You? What Are You Thankful For?

Marie M. Daniels
In the movie The Sound Of Music, Julie Andrews sings a song called "My Favorite Things". In the song she sings about liking: Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. I truly love the Sound of Music movie and the soundtrack. I was thinking about this song and what are my favorite things. So I decided to come up with a list and share them with the world. Now my list isn't a song or even poetic or anything so grand as that. It is just a list of things that have been or now are important to me.

Maria from the Sound of Music's favorite things:

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

My Favorite Things:

1. Family - My family has been there for me, not everyone can say the same.
2. My children - They bring me joy and make me smile and laugh.
3. Dates with my Husband - When we have the time and money.
4. Spring time - I love spring, the warmth of sun, the flowers blooming, a new beginning.
5. Reading a great novel - I enjoy reading, the way a book comes alive in my mind.
6. Being with friends - Hanging out with others, with whom I have things in common.
7. Funny movies - A really funny one that you laugh so hard you cry.
8. Vacation - Time relaxing with out the normal daily routine.
9. Riding my bike - I enjoy a nice cycle around the neighborhood.
10. Skiing - I wish I had more time and money for this one.
11. Being a stay at home mom - It's what I do and who I am.
12. Watching a favorite TV show uninterrupted by whining children, happens rarely.

You have probably heard of gratitude journals or thankful thinking. This is what I am trying to accomplish with my list. I want to have an attitude of gratitude, to be thankful for the things that matter in my life. Sometimes the things that are important to me now won't be important to me in 1 or 5 years. Some of the items might even seem trivial at a later point in time, but right now they seem to be of interest or value to me now. I would encourage you to think about your favorite things.
