They Brought Us Over
They brought us over
And gave us strife,
We worked and struggled
To make a life.
We were bought and sold
And had to slave very hard,
They considered us lower
In every regard.
We never gave up
Through many long years,
Learned what we could
And calmed our fears.
Those years slowly [or quickly] passed
And then, it was Lincoln's time,
He knew deep in his heart
Indeed, slavery was a terrible crime.
Yes, that war was fought
But was it truly won?
No, that took much more give and take
For history, itself, to be re-done.
Making changes slowly, one by one
The blacks kept on moving,
Step by step going forward
Sometimes more pushing and shoving.
Many of those hard fought rights
Are here today for all,
They had to slowly be worked through
Sometimes hitting that old brick wall.
Most even wonder now
How did it come to be?
That men owned others - no matter their skin
We thank God today - that everyone is free.
.
Even In February
Of this the year - 2010,
Inequalities are still brought up
We hear them again and again.
Obama now is leading
The somewhat changed USA,
Many thought they would never
Ever live to see this day.
This special first family - black
With a very hard fought hand,
Worked to gain the highest position
Anyone can hold In all our land.
Some people even as we speak
Live in somewhat of a bubble,
With whimpering and acting out
It's they who are in trouble.
President Obama is his name,
He's proved to us this world - all,
That one of history's greatest plagues
Truly needed to be tested and to fall.
