They Come Along

Brendan W Vittum
They come along...

Fists
pummel
hapless walls; He sees
a face, younger,
He does not know -
cannot see.

They come along -
inexperienced ones
with no awareness,
no etiquette -

They come along -
after He
has sucked Her veins
clean
of poisons -

Heart
of doubt.

They come along -
callow fools come
after the showing
of what
Love might,
Love can,
Love should
be and desire
is rekindled
in emptied vessels.

They come along -
younger ones
come, taking
by offering
the one thing

He

can never
give.
