They Go to War

M.S. Adams
In France, Midway, and the Rhine,
Antietam, Vicksburg, Brandywine,
They fought for freedom, and for love,
Walked through fires perilous,
Slew their foes and mourned their friends,
Fought for often distant ends,
Wielded gun and bayonet,
And death on bloody fields they met,
Now a new war rages on,
New sacrifices made and done,
And to the shining heroes' roll,
Add Kabul, Baghdad, and Mosul.
