They Were Just Little Girls

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
Makeup and styled hair
and high heels and pretty dresses
They were just little girls
with cherubic faces and small voices
and laughter and tears
(acting like they were all grown up)
They've been friends forever
and I hope that will never change
as they exit some doors
for the final time
and walk into a life brand new
I see them together
and I cannot help but smile
but it is a sad kind of smile
It is odd how things
seem so different
but somehow remain the same
The makeup and styled hair
and high heels and pretty dresses
they once were little girls
and now they are all grown up.
