Thickers Letter Stickers by American Crafts: Product Review

Embellishments for Scrapbooking, Card Making and Paper Crafts

Amy Solovay
"Thickers" letter stickers are manufactured by American Crafts. They are called "Thickers" because they are three-dimensional; they add a bit of texture and dimension wherever you stick them.

The Pros:

Thickers letter stickers are acid-free and archival quality, which means that they will be safe to use in scrapbooks that you want to keep in your family for generations.

Thickers letter stickers come in a huge variety of fonts, colors, materials, styles, and sizes; there are glitter Thickers, chipboard Thickers, velvet Thickers, foam Thickers, foil Thickers, felt Thickers, vinyl Thickers, puffy Thickers, and fabric / chipboard Thickers.

Packages of Thickers typically contain a generous amount of stickers, although the amount varies from package to package. The smaller letters usually have more in them than the larger ones do. I usually use Thickers for creating titles for my mini albums and scrapbook page layouts. Just to give you an idea, I can usually create around three titles from each package of Thickers before I start to run out of vowels or common letters. Your results may vary depending on how long your titles usually are. If you do a lot of one-word or short titles you should be able to make them stretch further.

Thickers make flat scrapbook pages and album covers look much more interesting and eye-catching.

The quality of Thickers is generally very good. In my experience, they stick as advertised. I did notice that my Velvet Thickers have "shed" a bit, not enough to complain about, but worth mentioning for those of you that are purists. Overall I have been very satisfied with them.

The Cons:

If you overdo it with Thickers and other 3-dimensional embellishments, your scrapbook pages might not lay flat in your albums, and it could cause your layouts to warp over time. Be aware of this, and be sure to use them in a balanced way.

Some albums do not accommodate three-dimensional embellishments, so if you use Thickers, be sure to find an album that does.

Some of the Foam Thickers do not hold their shape as well as some of the Thickers made of other materials do; if you are not careful with them, they are prone to tearing, denting and distorting. (They also tend to be less expensive, though.) If your layouts are handled frequently, you will probably want to consider using the sturdier fabrications such as chipboard Thickers.

Other Thickers Stickers:

This is a product review of Thickers letter stickers. American Crafts also makes Thickers in other shapes and styles too. The designs are very contemporary and stylish. They are very popular with scrapbookers. If you haven't seen them already, I recommend that you take a look at them.

Conclusion:

If you haven't tried Thickers yet, and you like the idea of dimensional titles and embellishments on your scrapbook album pages or art journal pages, I really think you will want to give them a try. I use Thickers letter stickers for making mini albums and scrapbook pages. My layouts are generally pretty flat, and I like it that way, so at first I was reluctant to try using Thickers. After I tried them, I was hooked. I will say that I tend to use Thickers more in my mini acrylic albums than I do on my paper layouts though. I LOVE the way that Thickers add texture and dimension to clear acrylic pages, and I especially love the extra eye-catching oomph they add to the cover of a clear acrylic mini album. I have used them on dozens of my scrapbooking projects, and have been very satisfied with them. I am happy to recommend them to other scrapbookers, and would gladly buy them again (and again, and again, and again!)

I will give these ideas to my mother too. She is working on scrapbooking to have a place for family things. Thank you.
