Thief Asks for a "Time Out" During Police Chase

In Manila, the capital of the Philippines, the police chased down a thief last Tuesday (June 26) after he and his partner broke into a residential house and stole two extremely expensive cell phones.

Luckily, the thief was extremely out of shape and was not a long distance runner.

Erwin Buenceso, one of the police officers who gave chase after the thief, told a local radio station dzBB, "He was panting and gasping for air when we caught up with him after a 500 meter sprint."

Buenceso told Reuters, loud shouts from inside the home caused the local police to pursue the thief.

The thief stuck up his hands and asked for a time-out using universal hand signals after sprinting 500 meters, which is only about 31% of a mile.

After the thief caught his breath, the police seized and returned the two cell phones to the rightful owners and took the thief to a police station for further interrogation.

Manila, having the highest population density of any major city in the world, contains an estimated 14.9 square miles of area (38.55 square kilometers) and is the capital of the Philippines. The city is known as a "Gamma" global city based on the classification of the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network. Sister Cities International, Inc. has designated five sister cities for Manila: Sacramento, San Francisco, Maui County, Honolulu City and County, and Los Angeles.

Ironically enough, however, is the fact that Shaquille O'Neal's new television series, "Shaq's Big Challenge," premiered that Tuesday of the incident. While Shaq was helping overweight children lose weight, this out of shape thief was caught because he wasn't fit enough.

It's always important to stay in shape and not slack off. This time, though, we were lucky that the thief was indeed out of shape, not extremely fit.

That's reason enough for everyone to get in shape, so you can run from the cops when needed!

He called a timeout and they still arrested him? Is this what the world is coming to? We don't even know universal hand signals anymore? People choking are going to start dropping like flies.
