Thine Own Heavenly Guest

Spring Sonnet #1

Dan Reveal
If these birds bring food to thy troubled heart,
I will gather them sunshine as they sleep.
Thy barefoot soul is what sets thee apart,
from those winged warriors that roam the deep.
Thy lease on life is but a moment's day,
so stay ye blessed and fret not the last hour.
Thy peace is found among those fields of hay,
a fortress glimpsed as a soft Spring shower.
For barefoot born and barefoot you should stay,
'til wisdom comes to show just who you are.
Seek me not by the hills for just one day,
for I have gone to kiss thy fav'rite star.
'Tis a mortal man that thy hand shall bless,
and make my love thine own Heavenly guest.

Dan, I've read it three times, and the beauty of the words, of course, penetrates. But there's more here. And I've run out of time. So I'll visit again. I have the imagery of a butterfly in my mind. But that's not it. So I'll come back. And thank you for the invitation.

Oh good, I was hoping you would take on the sonnet challenge!. Wanted to see how you would combine your whimsical fanciful lyrical style with the old sonnet form restrictions -- and you did it beautifully.

So true and quite lovely. :-) A pleasure to read and indeed precious words, food for a hungry soul. I loved. BRAVO!

    Lovely sonnet!

I was not brave enough to write a sonnet. I remember years ago Mad Magazine rewrote famous poems. My favorite one ended "Trees are made my God, I fear, but only Shlitz can make a beer." Your sonnet is so much better.
