By the time you hit your junior year in college, you will have already experienced two full years of higher education. The whole point in going to college is to find out who you are, what you want to be, and what you would like to learn. Along the way, there should be things that you are accomplishing each semester and each year. These accomplishments will show the world that you received the most you possibly could out of college and that you are ready for whatever comes your way. Your junior year is the time to enhance these accomplishments and add to them. Here are a few things that you should have accomplished by your junior year of college.

You should have a resume. College is the perfect time to build a really good resume. Although your classes are very important, they are not the only thing you should be concentrating on. You should be gaining work experience, doing volunteer work, studying abroad, and learning special skills. All of these things can be added to your resume. If you are not sure how to put a resume together, visit your Career Center at your university and they can assist you.

You should have started your major classes. College students usually try to get all of their introductory courses out of the way before they begin taking major classes. You should be able to complete these introductory courses within two years. So by the time you hit your junior year, you should be taking your major courses. It's always good to take one or two as a freshman or sophomore as well. If you are still undecided at this point, you need to go see an academic advisor right away. You may be in jeopardy of not graduating on time.

You should have decided whether you want to take on a minor or not. Of course, you don't have to take a minor but sometimes it makes more sense. You should start your minor by your junior year. You will be taking fewer classes than your major, but you still need time to make sure all of your courses fit in your schedule. Your main goal is to graduate on time, so deciding on a minor by your junior year will help you achieve that.

You should have goals set for the next two years. Your junior year is the time to decide what more you would like to add to your college experience. You only have two more years left and each year is extremely crucial to both your academics and development as a person. Make a list of all the things you still would like to accomplish before your college career is over.

College is all about accomplishing your goals and getting as much education and knowledge as you can. You only have four years to get all you can out of your college experience and it is important to space it out among those four years. Waiting until your senior year to join a club, get an internship, or build your resume is a really bad idea. You may end up not having enough time to do all the things you want to do. So, do it early and accomplish these things by the time you hit your junior year of college.
