The Classic Tournament
To me this is just meaningless filler. There are a lot of anime series that does it. If you're a huge anime fan, I am sure you can think of a few series right off the bat that does this. Some people enjoy the tournaments because it is basically episode after episode is full of action. I would rather watch normal filler that does character development, story background, or even adds some humor to the story instead or watching these 1vs1 fights.
The Grunting and Long Power Ups
I understand that it is needed to keep the realness and interest of a fight, but there are some series I swear if I would go in and edit all the times there was an extended amount of screaming, I would lose 1/3 of the series. Long power ups sometimes are nice for dramatic effect, but other times they are over excessive.
The Never-ending Series
There are many other anime series that hit the 100 episodes or more. It gets difficult to have the time for that. I think sometimes a series loses its touch if it is overdone. And sometimes it just ends up becoming extremely repetitive and boring.
Continuous Recapping
Some series are worse than others. You will watch a single episode, and then the episodes that follows has 10 minutes of what happened the episode before it. I know this is a good way to keep everyone informed whether they watch often or not, but it really can get annoying. Some anime DVDs have a nice feature where you can actually cut out all the recapping and even the intro and credits. You can go from one episode to the next and get straight to the good stuff.
I like watching anime. But let's get the point. Let's dig deep into the story, tell it once, (maybe have a couple flash-backs, but not too many) get some character development, a climax, and let it end. Sometimes, you definitely can have too much of a good thing before it is well...repetitive.

Post a CommentGood article! I agree with all you've pointed out. The only anime I watch is occasional episodes of whatever Adult Swim shows. But, I've noticed those kinds of things. A related annoyance I have to over-done recapping is the amount of obvious statements made. This can be anything from a character saying a certain name within two or three minutes, or when one character thinks something to his/herself and another character says it out loud. I mean, we get the point already, if we haven't figured it out for ourselves! And then that sometimes turns into one phrase or Important Concept being repeated word for word episode after episode. Annoys me. :D You knew how to pick a topic that got me interested!
