Start off your trip to Bedford County by taking in a tour at Cannodale bicycle factory. Located just off route 30 on Friendship Village Road, the Cannondale factory offers visitors an inside look at the process of making bicycles. Cannondale is the leading manufacturer of high end bikes. Call ahead to book a group tour.
After the bicycle factory, head to Old Bedford Village to see how our ancestors lived hundreds of years ago. This living history village allows tourists to see how things were done in colonial times. Old Bedford Village employees dress in costume to complete the experience. You can watch as they practice skills necessary for survival in the 1800's. Skills such as basket weaving, candle making, blacksmithing, coopering and spinning are all things you will see as you walk through this historical wonder. Stop by the gift shop to purchase some of the items the employees make on a daily basis. Old Bedford Village is located just off of Business Route 220 South. Old Bedford Village is open Labor Day through October 27.
If you still can't get enough history then consider taking a candlelight ghost tour. Follow your 18th century tour guide as they take you through the streets of Bedford on foot. This lantern lit guided tours gives you a spooky encounter at spirits who once walked the streets of Bedford and those who still frequent the town. The tours are new for spring 2007 and admission is $8.
If you want to drive instead of walk, then consider a self guided driving tour. The tour starts at Old Bedford Village and continues on through the country side. On this tour you will see eight covered bridges including Claycomb's and Snook's. End the driving tour by seeing a true scientific wonder. Gravity Hill is famous for defying the laws of physics. Marked with large G-H on the road, stop your car before the second road marking, put your car in neutral, look out for traffic and try to figure out how you are rolling up hill.
