Provided below is a list of items most students will need for college. While the list is quite large, it focuses on the basics. Items such as a television and bicycle are not included because not all students will bring these items.
The first place to start is the bathroom. A good portion of college students will live have community bathrooms. This means the student will have to walk down the hall to take a shower; opposed to opening a door within one's own place. As a result, items such as a shower caddy will be needed.
Focusing in on shower items, there are a few items every student will need. First and foremost, shampoo and body wash are a must. For a person to wash themselves, they will need to bring a wash cloth. When in the shower, a student will need to buy flip flops. The showers can be dirty because the showers are used by multiple people, therefore it is impossible to know what to expect on the floor. After leaving the shower, the student will need to have a towel to dry themselves off.
After drying off, a student will spend a good portion of their time at the sink getting ready for class. Contacts or glasses are to be brought to help the person see clearly. It is also vital to bring contact solution and a case to hold the contacts. Afterwards, a student will need a toothbrush and toothpaste to clean their teeth. Q-tips are used by many, and provide a way to clean the ears. A nail clipper will come in handy when it comes to clipping finger and toe nails. Remembering deodorant is a must because it would be embarrassing to fill the classroom with one's body odor. Hairspray and a brush are worth bringing if the student does their hair each morning. Some students might find it worth while to include a hair dryer.
Women who wear makeup will want to remember to bring it to college. Acne cream should be brought if the student finds themselves developing acne every now and then.
This should include everything required for the bathroom. Additional items can also be included, but might not be required.
The bedroom is the next area needing several items. In reference to the bed, the standard sheets and blanket should be brought, as should a comforter. Beds in college are very hard, and a comforter will help make sleep more enjoyable. It might be worth while to bring a second blanket, just in case the roommate likes to have the room set at a low temperature.
The closets in college are usually the same. Clothes and hangers should be brought. One must remember to limit the amount of clothes brought to college. It is a hassle bringing hundreds of shirts to college.
Washing clothes in college means using the community laundry rooms. A hamper should be brought to help carry all of the clothes. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets should be included, in addition to the hamper.
For the dresser, there are many items a student will need to factor. It helps having a laptop or desktop in college, though some students might be able to do without. Whether one chooses a laptop or a desktop, is not a big deal. Most students tend to bring a laptop and have it sit on their desk. Others use their laptops heavily and take them to the library and coffee shops. Either way, one will know whether or not they will utilize the abilities of either.
With a computer is the need for a printer and printer paper. The student needs to bring lots of paper, because it often runs out fast. A USB cable might need to be purchased for the printer to connect to the computer. An Ethernet cable might not be provided by the university and needed to be purchased.
Kleenex and medicine are good for battling sickness and should be included.
Whether or not one is sexually active, it is a good idea to bring condoms. With college, one will not know what to expect, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
A good portion of people lack the ability to wake up without assistance for class. An alarm clock will help the student make it to class on time.
The last area in need of things is the classroom. Unlike high school, the amount of items required for class is very slim. Binders, paper, pencils, pens, and folders should be enough. Students majoring in the arts will need to bring additional items.
As far as everything needed to bring to college, the list above includes nearly everything. Additional items such as a television, video game system, additional lighting, a futon, and snacks, might be wanted. Refrigerators and microwaves are provided by some colleges, but not by others. Therefore, whether or not to bring one should be thought of well in advance.
The list of things a student needs to bring to college can seem like a lot, but it is not too much. Packing for college should not take more than a couple hours. If it takes more than that, then the student is probably bringing too much. Items forgotten can be purchased at a local store if forgotten. Remember to bring a big vehicle because the items mentioned above can take up a lot of space.
