Things to Do with Carpet Scraps

Deborah Anderson
Have you ever had any carpet scraps? If so, what can you do with them other than throw them out? Here are several options for that piece of carpet that is too small to do anything else with.

Carpet scrap can be used as padding to prevent walls from being gouged or scraped by the corners of a bed. Simply cut the carpet scraps to fit the corners of the bed and attach them. This will help protect your walls and can be done on the feet of the bed if they are scratching your floor.

A piece of carpet can be used as a dolly to help move items in the house. Simply place the object on the piece of carpet and drag it to where you are wishing to place the object. The floor will be protected and the job will be somewhat easier.

Knee pads can be made out of carpet scraps. To make knee pads cut two pieces of carpet scraps about ten inches square, then you will need to cut two slits in each piece large enough to run a piece of rope or some other item through to use to keep the knee pads in place. Although these may not be the most stylish knee pads that can be found, they are certainly one of the most budget friendly ones.

Do you need a buffer to help with a cleaning chore? Use a piece of carpet scrap glued to a piece of wood that is small enough for you to hold in your hand. This little item has many uses from chalkboard erasing to buffing shoes after waxing them. It can also be used to clean window screens.

All of these ideas for what to do with pieces of scrap carpet require only a little piece of the carpet. If you have a larger piece of carpet then you can do even more with it. You can insulate a room by placing it on the walls to use as a sound barrier or a temperature barrier. Another use would be to use the piece of carpet as a drop cloth to keep messy situations from spilling onto the floors that need protected. You can also protect a floor from a ladder if you place a piece of carpet under it that is large enough for all four legs of the ladder.

Pieces of carpet scraps do not have to be simply thrown away. They can be very useful around the house.
