Hereditary
It is very possible for you to inherit diabetes. Every generation passes on some specific genes that could be responsible for someone becoming diabetic. The mother and father can pass on certain genes but genes coming from the father appear to present the stronger likelihood that someone will inherit diabetes.
Age
As you age the chance of you getting diabetes increases. In fact the vast majority of cases don't happen until someone is older than 50 years old. Don't think you are immune because you are a teenager because this disease can strike at any age.
Diet
If you are accustomed to eating at McDonalds and other fast food restaurants then this can lead to a bad diet and ultimately the onset of diabetes. If you have poor nutrition and diet and you are not getting enough fiber then your risk for diabetes increases. Eating a lot of refined food will help you to develop diabetes.
Obesity
Being overweight is another factor that can contribute to diabetes. The fatter you are the more you resist insulin.
Lack of exercise
When someone does not get much exercise and for the most part they are a couch potato then the chances of diabetes increases. Try to get in 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise and you will decrease your chance of developing diabetes.
Stress
Another contributor to diabetes is stress. Stress can trigger a number of ailments in the body all of which can cause you to develop diabetes. An injury can present a situation where you are stressed out. Your emotional state can also cause stress. In today's economy it is very easy to get stressed out especially with money worries and debt.
Pancreas
When the pancreas stops producing insulin you can develop diabetes because of an insulin shortage. The pancreas can be damaged early in life because of disease or because of an attack by the immune system. This is what leads to type 1diabetes. Viruses can cause the onset of diabetes in children. Viruses can cause diabetes in young children.
a.)
One team showed that enteroviruses - which normally cause colds, vomiting or diarrhea - were found frequently in the pancreases of young people who had recently died from type 1 diabetes, sometimes called juvenile diabetes, but not in healthy samples.
Men vs. Women
Diabetes has been known to be more prevalent in elderly men than women.
