But there are more things to do on City Island than fine dining. There is a lot going on in the daytime also. The City Island Yacht Club is the host of sailing races from May through September. It is a beautiful site, sitting by the water and watching some of the finest sail boats competing. There are no less than 10 marinas and if you have the urge to learn how to sail, there is a school just for you.
You can stroll the quaint village streets and spend the day antiquing and there are plenty of antique shops to peak anyone's fancy, Visit the City Island Nautical Museum, the City Island Library, or check out the schedule at the City Island Community Theater. City Island hosts craft fairs in both the spring and fall, a great opportunity to either get some one of a kind items or if you are one of the craftier persons, get a spot and exhibit your own creations. The atmosphere is pure small town America, even though you are technically in the Bronx.
There are two museums that it is almost against the law not to visit. The first is the Nautical Museum and the second is The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum. When you come here, just walk around and imagine what it was like when this was a private residence. It has been beautifully restored and is an official New York City landmark.
