In today's world, it seems that all college students do in their free time is to go out and party and drink it up. While that it fun, you shouldn't let that keep you from discovering all the different things that you university has to offer. You are paying for it, so you might as well use it.
1. Work out- Chances are that you now have a membership to a wide array of club services such as a weight room, track, basketball courts, pools, hot tubs, etc. Go get a workout in a couple times a week. There is probably something for you even if you don't like to work out by lifting weights or doing some cardio. Try going to some exercise classes, there are usually some free ones that you can try out before committing to paying for the entire session. Go to the pool, whether or not you're going to swim laps, it is a good way to relax and have fun with friends. If you have an indoor track then you have no excuse for not running year round. Run outside when the weather permits, but then move to the indoor track, if you have one, or a treadmill.
2. Join some clubs and be active. This is a great way to meet a wide variety of people. You will also be sure to have at least a few things a month to do from just joining one club. Try going to meetings for whatever interests you, and then choose a couple that fit you.
3. Go to athletic events. They are a ton of fun and are a great way to show your school spirit. Don't just go to the main sports such as men's basketball and football either. Check out a swim meet, baseball, and soccer games. You will find that they can be just as much fun for a lot less monetarily.
4. Go to college sponsored events. Be sure to keep your eye out for notices about college sponsored events. These are great times together with friends and are usually free.
5. Get a job. Since college is costing you so much, why not cut down on your debt? There are usually wide arrays of jobs for students on campus, from campus recreation jobs, to dining hall staff. Be sure to allow time to be with friends and for your academics also though. I would suggest that you don't get a job your first semester of college so that you have plenty of time to adjust and to get to know new people.
